CARDIAC ABLATION:
Cardiac Ablation is a procedure that aims to correct arrhythmias in the heart. It is also called catheter ablation for its use of electrode catheters - long thin tubes- that inserted into the heart through the groin. Electrophysiologist generally use radiofrequency energy to destroy abnormal cells in the heart that may be causing disorganised electrical signals in the upper and lower chamber of the heart, which eventually result in irregular or rapid heartbeats, also known as arrhythmias. Catheter ablation destroys the abnormal cells without damaging the rest of the heart. Electrophysiologists usually send minimal electrical impulse through the catheter to activate and locate the abnormal cells causing arrhythmia Cardiac ablation can be performed under total or local anesthesia, depending on the case.
Some patients may need more than one Cardiac Ablation to correct their arrhythmias.
