I had SMILE surgery done yesterday at Cathedral Eye clinic. Amazing how quickly I can see so clearly! 24 hours later I have better than 20/20 vision - pilot level!
I initially had a quote from another provider and felt very uneasy with them as they were very pushy. Cathedral eye were the total opposite, very professional and gave me plenty of time to decide. Really felt like I could trust them, especially Andrew and Professor Moore.
The procedure itself while slightly unnerving was completely pain free and no pain after either. Would definitely recommend Cathedral Eye Clinic

I had lens replacement surgery on both eyes in May 2019, a week apart as recommended, and from day one was absolutely delighted with the results. I followed the aftercare instructions diligently and experienced no problems post operation or since.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Cathedral Eye Clinic for this procedure.

I had the Smile procedure done 2 years ago at the Cathedral Eye Clinic and it's the best thing I've ever done for myself! The whole team, from admin and reception to the surgeons themselves, were professional, friendly and put me totally at ease. The aftercare was incredible as well. If anyone is wavering about getting laser surgery, I'd say go for it!

I had my SMILE laser eye surgery with Cathedral Eye Clinic in April 2019. I decided to undergo surgery because of health issues with prolonged contact lens wear and because wearing glasses didn't work with my active lifestyle. I chose Cathedral Eye Clinic because of their excellent reviews and the professional background of their surgeons. From my first appointment I felt I was in good hands. The health of my eyes was the very first thing that was addressed, I had several appointments to check things and received special treatment for dry eyes before surgery was considered. The surgery itself was quick and painless, the process was clear and I was guided and reassured throughout the process. Within a day or two I was able to see clearly and within a few weeks I had better vision than ever before. On top of that, I have learned to look after my eyes and have seen a huge improvement in the health of my eyes after surgery and to this day. I love to be outdoors, to cycle, run, hike. Perfect sight as well as the lack of need for glasses or contact lenses has improved my life tremendously. And even something as simple as being able to see while I'm in the shower still amazes me. Getting laser eye surgery, especially SMILE which allows for faster healing, was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I went in for SMILE laser eye surgery. Had a really good experience the entire way through from the initial consultation and check ups to the aftercare. Staff were all very friendly and professional, they made sure I understood what they were doing throughout. After the surgery they had check ups throughout the next year to make sure everything was healing properly. Didn't have any issues with the clinic and I'm really happy with the results from the surgery.

I had my SMILE laser surgery three and a half years ago now and haven’t looked back. My main reasons for getting the surgery were to improve the simple things in life like walking in the rain, being able to see when getting my hair cut and being able to see when I woke up in the morning all without glasses. I was also increasingly worried about my day to day life being so dependent on my glasses, had something happened to them I would not be able to go about any daily activities without them and this was a growing concern.
The results have met my expectations and more, I was not someone who was desperate for the surgery. I actually went to the initial consultation with my husband who was very interested in the surgery and I ended up getting it done instead of him.
The patient care before, during and after the surgery was brilliant, I couldn’t have asked for better. The staff were all lovely to work with and I felt at ease every time I visited. Cathedral eye clinic have a really relaxed but professional atmosphere and I felt my eyes were in safe hands the entire time.
My life since surgery isn’t dramatically different but the little things in life are so much better. I wake up in the morning able to see the entire room when I open my eyes and I can see outside the shower and when I put on my makeup. Sports games and cinema are now much improved experiences. I no longer have to clean my glasses regularly and getting caught in the rain is not a problem. I can go to a swimming pool and see everything around me where before I wouldn’t even have gone. I like that when I look in the mirror I can really see my eyes rather than them being hidden somewhat behind whatever frames are in style. I love that I can now live my life without worrying about my glasses and I can hug and kiss my little boy without worry of them getting in the way or breaking.
I highly recommend the surgery to anyone like myself who isn’t greatly affected by their glasses but just wants to be glasses free, the most painful part of the whole surgery was having the tape on my eye taken off to work on it when the first one was done, so not very painful at all. Within a day I was back to my normal full life and over three years later I still have as close to perfect vision as you can get with no side effects. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the procedure or Cathedral Eye Clinic.

I have only good things to say Cathedral Eye Clinic. I went from being very short sighted to having ‘fighter pilot vision’, needless to say I was delighted. That was five years ago and my eyesight is as good as ever. The care and expertise was evident from the first appointment and when I mentioned I was nervous, I was shown the room where it’s carried out which helped me to visualise the whole process and calm me down. The follow up was excellent and thorough and I really feel there is nowhere else I would go for the Smile procedure.

A wonderful experience from start to finish. The welcome from the fantastic people on reception was outstanding. Medical Staff are very professional & really make you feel at home & at ease for the up coming surgery. My Husband got both cataracts done & he's so glad he did. Expensive, but REALLY worth it in the end. Sight is priceless. He had a few problems post surgery & these were look after very very quickly. A payment plan is also on offer to anyone who needs to avail of this service.
My Husband & I are so so glad we choose Cathedral Eye Clinic & we both would HIGHLY Recommend Cathedral Eye Clinic to anyone who needs cataract surgery.

I now have freedom from distance and reading glasses for the first time in nearly 60 years - a Christmas miracle !!
I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes, 2 weeks apart, as driving had become difficult, especially in unfamiliar places where I needed to read road signs.
All the clinic staff were kind and considerate and put me at ease throughout the procedure. Any queries were answered promptly and efficiently.
I have had no post-op problems and am still enjoying the novelty of waking every morning and being able to see the bedroom clearly without first reaching for glasses or contact lenses.
I would highly recommend The Cathedral Eye Clinic to anyone needing cataract surgery.

Well 7 days after opp. Had left eyes done. Right eye was done at Kingsbridge hospital. By Mr Chan. Service at Kingsbridge was outstanding. Service and result at Cathedral eye clinic was on power the same. In both cases result was outstanding. My new left eye lens even after 7 days done by Mr Grimsby looks perfect I Don't think I'll need glasses again. I had cataracts in both eyes. In both cases the outcome was the same. So which one would I recommend? Well the Cathedral eye clinic. Price is lower and it only sepicalizes in eyes Kingsbridge was good but very busy and over priced.
Thanks to both Mr Grimsby and Mr Chan. Outstanding job. Well done. Thanks Patrick

Having investigated all avenues to relieve me of wearing glasses (In SE Asia and Beyond) I decided to use Cathedral Eye Clinic
From the moment I had my initial examination to the completion of my operations, I have been 100% over the moon with the Consultant who operated to the receptionists who greeted me on arrival
Best money I have EVER spent and my eyesight has been restored to Pre-Glasses
One thing I must say is that anyone who is concerned or worried about the actual 10 minute operation which entailed replacement of my eye lenses, Then Dont... It was one of the most painless and satisfying operation I have ever went through.... To be honest it was In-Out and a Job well done ";o) ... My biggest issue now is trying to take my glasses off .... They are not there LOL

3 WEEKS IN.
Eye still good. However can't get a 15min release appointment to have a final checkup. Without this I can't claim reimbursement cost from Irish government. So from 1st appointment in early December to late April. That's 5 months to get reimbursement cost. That not good. As no guarantee the cross border system will still be going.

I attended Cathedral Eye Clinic, Belfast, on March 7th 2022 to have a cataract removed from my right eye. From the first consultation with the Consultant, Mr Best, through to the operation and post-op care, the whole procedure was smooth and very professional.
The operation itself took about 15 minutes and was totally painless. The staff were very keen that I should be comfortable and went out of their way to make this happen.
The following 48 hours saw a rapid improvement in my sight and I couldn't be more grateful to Mr Best and his team for their professional and caring attitude.
I unreservedly recommend Cathedral Eye Clinic for their cleanliness, professionalism and value for money...Mike G.

The doctors and nurses made me feel at ease and reassured me it was a simple procedure and there was nothing to worry about....AND THEY WERE RIGHT. My surgeon Mr Wing Chan spoke to me in person and he was lovely. The surgery went extremely well and the after care was first class. I recently attended the Cathedral Eye clinic and have to say that from my initial consultation to see if i was a suitable candidate was seamless, the first appointment was to see if I was suitable for either IOL( lens replacement ) or Laser and a full health check of the eyes, this went well and a couple of weeks later I had an appointment with the surgeon himself that was going to perform the surgery, his name was Mr Grixti and I have to say he explained every thing in depth from what type of replacement lens was available, the pros and cons of each and what to expect as the end result, as a result of that consultation I opted for IOL lens replacement with a lens similar to what I was used to as I wore contact lens most of the day at work and then my glasses at night whilst relaxing at home, next was the surgery and they do one eye at a time, the whole procedure was seamless from meeting the nurses who administered the drops etc , then the anaesthetist and once again very pleasant and made you feel relaxed, roughly 10mins wait and through to the surgery where once again Mr Grixti greeted you and the nurses prep you for the operation, roughly 35-40mins later that was one eye done , one week later the other eye was done and I have to say the results were fantastic, when the patch came of the first eye it was amazing seeing colours and sharpness that I hadn't seen in a long time, don't get me wrong yes i could see with the contact lens and glasses but everything was much crisper and sharper with the lens replacement, the colours just jumped out at you.
The good thing now is that I don't have to worry about loosing a contact lens or did I remember to bring my glasses, all that hassle is gone, especially when riding the motorcycle ,helmet on and away! and being able to just go an purchase any sunglasses you want without having to worry about prescription lens, I would 100% recommend the Cathedral Eye clinic and Mr Grixti for his honest and professional opinions when it came to the lens options depending on your lifestyle.

Having heard about cataract surgery in The Catherdral Clinic Belfast on the Joe Duffy Radio Show I decided to investigate it further as the thoughts of waiting on the very lengthy list in the South was not appealing. I began by calling "Trasna" who are body who help with all the details of Cross Border Surgeries including the reimbursement of fees by the HSE. They were most helpful and they were able to advise me on all aspects. Then I called the Cathedral Clinic directly with questions, and that settled my mind on having the surgery there as the young lady was so polite, helpful and willing to answer all of my questions and concerns. I focused my mind on making the experience into a good one by planning on staying 3 nights in the recommended nearby Ramada Hotel and experiencing Belfast itself with my son. At least, that was the plan, not knowing how the recovery would be! The day of the consultation was very reassuring as I was greeted by a lovely receptionist and then the very professional and helpful Optometrists did my eye exam. Then I met with my Surgeon, Mr. Stephen Stewart who was very personable and put me at ease regarding my concerns and the surgery itself. The next day of the Surgery was equally reassuring as I met more of the great team, including the nurse who checked my vitals, the Anesthetist, Mr. McCoy who tactfully distracted me with chat! He advised me to put up my hand during surgery if need be rather than talk. But no need, and Mr. Stewart reassured me on two occasions throughout the 15/20 min surgery that it was going well which I really appreciated. After the surgery, although it was busy in the Clinic, many of the team checked in on me as I awaited my son to walk me back to the hotel. Ally, Patient Experience Manager who conducted a very nice post operative call informed me that a staff member would accompany a patient home or to their hotel should they be solo. The evening of the surgery, I had a concern and called the emergency line where I was assured all was normal. I also was given a good chart for eye drops and aftercare info to take away with me which was very helpful. The day after surgery, I did get to enjoy Belfast as hoped with my son! I had to wear an eye patch but I was able to visit "The Titanic Experience" which is amazing! The best part, of course, is that I now have perfect vision in my eye! I am delighted and grateful to Mr. Stewart and all the wonderful team at the The Cathedral Clinic! I would highly recommend The Cathedral Clinic to everyone who is suffering cataracts. And it is a specialized Clinic rather than a hospital. Trasna have all the details on the Cross Border initiative. Many thanks!!

Cannot recommend Cathedral Eye Clinic enough. The whole process was smooth, from the initial consultation to the post operation follow up appointments. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I was talked through the possibility of additional risks and was even given examples of studies that had been completed in order for to make a fully informed decision. Professor Moore showed a great level of care in doing this and made it feel very personal. Once I had made my decision, I was reassured throughout the entire process and any questions were answered with complete understanding. The procedure itself was quick and easy and nothing at all to worry about. The surgery has completely changed my life and I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner!

My elderly father had cataract eye surgery in both eyes performed by Mr Wing Chan over September and October 2022. We were both impressed by the professional manner in which the whole procedure was conducted. Mr Chan himself was friendly and approachable and the clinic staff were at all times helpful and nothing was too much trouble. My father was treated at all times with dignity and respect and the information given was detailed but easy to understand and it was made clear that we could contact them at any time with any concerns. Both procedures were without issue and my fathers eyes are now healed and healthy. We would highly recommend Cathedral Eye Clinic.

The outcome of my surgery for Cataract was beyond my expectations. The process from initial assessment to post surgery phone call, was conducted in professional and caring manner. The outcome was astonishing as I regained clarity and colour not seen for some time. My surgery had to deal with addition eye issues but this was managed within the operation with no problems. Top marks for a top team !

Customer service - zero. I called the clinic to arrange a private consultation for a cataract operation, and was told I had to send a letter to their general email proving I had private insurance for the procedure, and then Cathedral would decide which consultant would treat me. I sent a letter from my insurer confirming that I was covered but mentioning the Beacon Hospital. No response for two days, then received a rude reply, stating that I had to procure a letter from my insurer with the specific name of the consultant at Cathedral who would treat me, even though Cathedral had told me they would only decide the consultant after I had sent the letter from the insurer! A classic Catch 22. Then they ignored my follow-up query. I made an appointment elsewhere. Pathetic. Avoid.

I have worn glasses/ contact lenses for over 60 years & I simply cannot believe the wonderful difference that cataract surgery in the Cathedral Eye Clinic ( March & April 2023) has made to my vision.
Everyone I met in the Clinic is extremely friendly & professional but most plaudits must go to my surgeon, Mr.Wing Chan.He is such a gentleman & answered all my questions, advising me on the best type of replacement lenses for my eyes. The actual operations lasted a very short time & were totally pain free.I now wish I had done this years ago!

I undergone Lens Replacement procedure at Cathedral Eye Clinic last year. I have to say right from the initial phone call to final post surgery appt, this was a highly professional, friendly and organised journey. All staff are so thorough in every aspect of their duties. nothing is any trouble, they explain everything. As a health care professional myself, with over 40 years experience, I do have an eye for detail. Believe me, when I say no detail was overlooked by Cathedral Eye Clinic.
Eye surgery, of any type, is worrying and stressful. Its your eyesight. You want it done right. Yes its expensive, but you know what, when you get to this stage you just want your eyes back.
These guys will give you back your eyes and your life. I've been there, I know.
All I can say is a massive thank you to Professor Moore and the entire team. It is a big team, but each and everyone of them know their job, inside out. Cathedral Eye Clinic is a well oiled machine.
