Dr Wong is awesome. My experience mirrors all his reviews. He explained to me that he has been doing this procedure for a very long time and pioneered doing lens replacement surgery on younger people when the industry thought it should only be used on elderly people. I was impressed during the surgery how supportive he was talking you through the process and telling me how well i was doing. It really only took about 10 or 15 minutes but when you’re trying to hold your eye still it’s reassuring to hear from the person doing the procedure that you’re doing well
and the procedure is going great. Highly recommend.

100 stars Eyes of Texas staff and Dr. Wong!

Fantastic experience with Dr. Wong and his team. I visited several other LASIK centers before choosing Dr. Wong for monovision LASIK. I chose Eyes of Texas Laser Center because my initial visit was with Dr. Wong himself - not an associate or a consultant. He was very clear and realistic about my options and the pros and cons of each. Procedure pricing is straight forward and transparent vs. the other centers. His office team made everything easy and comfortable and most of all efficient. Wait time for my appointments was minimal to none - with my schedule, I appreciate the patient empathy. The procedure was quick, easy and painless. Recovery instructions were concise and easy to follow. I'm extremely happy with my results. I highly recommend this office to anyone considering/needing a laser eye surgery.

He spent a lot of time educating me and going over every possible detail so I knew what to expect and felt confident. He's a great doc, and I'm so thankful I had a chance to get this life changing service. Don't hesitate, if you're considering getting lasik, just go and talk to Doc Wong. He'll get your eyes RIGHT!!!

I interviewed 3 surgeons before deciding to have my lenses replaced at the end of 2020. I felt unsure until I met Dr. Wong. His years of experience and multitude of past patients give him the experience to guide you in the right direction, and he chooses YOUR happiness over the lens salesreps! I had lasik almost 20 years ago with major correction (20/700!) and astigmatism, but this was no challenge for Dr. Wong. He recommended specific lenses and procedures and here I sit writing this review now without any glasses! My multi-focal lenses (aka: cataract surgery) are fantastic. There was no pain whatsoever, and having the procedure done in his state-of-the-art surgery room onsite at his office was very comforting. He and his staff and fantastic to deal with. Thanks Dr. Wong!!!

I recently underwent corrective vision surgery with Dr. Wong and I could not be more happy with the experience, staff, and results. First of all, I really appreciate that the free consult is with Dr. Wong himself and he really takes the time to address all of your concerns. He is very direct about what you can expect, if you are a good candidate and the process. His staff are friendly and professional. The surgery itself was actually kind of fun because of the valium and bright lights :) and while I was spaced out, Dr. Wong was extremely focused. The surgery was quick and the next day, my vision was basically perfect and has continued to improve. Lights are a bit brighter at night, as expected, but it's really not a problem. I've recommended Dr. Wong to friends and after they shopped around, they ultimately went with Dr. Wong. 5 stars.

Dr.Wong is AMAZING! I went to my free consultation today with the hopes of being a candidate for LASIK surgery, but unfortunately, found out that I wasn’t a great candidate. I was highly impressed with Dr.Wong’s honesty and how knowledgeable and informative he was. So many surgeons would have lied and done the surgery anyways to make some money, but he was honest from the very beginning and explained to me why it wouldn’t be in my best interest. He explained an eye condition I have that I’ve gone all 24 years of my life without even knowing about. No eye doctor that I’ve been to has ever explained it to me in so much detail. Although I was disappointed that I wouldn’t be getting the surgery, I left feeling extremely happy and at ease now that I finally understand why my eyes are the way they are and what the best correction options would be. He didn’t have to spend as much time talking to me as he did, especially given the fact that I was not going to be getting the surgery (spending money) and the consultation itself was free, but he didn’t treat me any differently and he spent a substantial amount of time answering every single one of my questions in detail. It also helps that he’s very witty and funny! The staff is also extremely nice and welcoming. Very clean facility. Very honest company and, if I was able to do the surgery, I would 10/10 do it here.

Dr. Wong is an amazing surgeon and I could not be more pleased with the results of my lens replacement surgery. After wearing contacts and glasses most of my life and not being a candidate for LASIK due to extreme myopia, I now see better than 20/20 without contacts or glasses. Dr. Wong is not only a truly gifted surgeon, but also a consummate professional who invests himself in the outcome. His caring and educational approach made me feel comfortable and knowledgeable every step of the way. Likewise, his staff is the best you'll find - professional, caring, friendly, and helpful. They consistently went above and beyond to answer all my questions and ensure a smooth process. I highly recommend Dr. Wong to anyone considering vision correction surgery. Best decision, life changing!

Experience - My personal experience with Dr. Wong was exceptional. Dr. Wong is highly professional and puts you to ease immediately by sharing the entire process of the surgery with you. Moreover, the surgery itself was executed exactly as described. The expected results have been achieved.
Staff - The staff was very friendly and professional. Part of the protocol of the Pre-Op is to have a staff member walk you through the facility and describe the work flow during operation day. The staff also too COVID precautions seriously, utilizing face masks, hand sanitizer, and a laser thermometer to measure temperatures of clients.
Services - Dr. Wong's bio will speak to the level of service provided by Eyes of Texas Laser Center. My wait time for pre op, op, and post op were all less than 10 minutes. I would recommend Dr. Wong to any of my friends, family, or acquaintances. The center also offered a generous discount for my military active duty status.
Transparency - Extremely transparent in both the potential outcomes of the surgery as well as overall cost of the surgery.
The only minor critique I would offer is a more clearly defined eye drop schedule. The schedule does not have the best font and the bottles could be better matched to the labels on the schedule. This is the only critique I can provide.

I went to several LASIK providers for consultations and before ended up choosing Dr Wong. I cannot be any happier with my choice! Dr Wong is very thorough in his exam and explanation of the procedure. I appreciate having him, the surgeon, do all the pre-op consultation and exams, which was not the case at many other places. I want to talk to the person actually operating on my eyes! I’m only a few days post op right now and already seeing SO much better. Honestly wish I had done it sooner!

I waited until my three month follow up to post this review. My LASIK journey was not as easy or smooth as others, but in the end my vision turned out fabulous and I cannot recommend Dr. Wong enough.
I went two places for consultation. While Dr. Wong was slightly more expensive, he was the only doctor willing to do LASIK on me. The other would only do PRK because of previous corneal abrasions I had. Because my job requires a lot of computer work I needed something with a faster recovery time so I scheduled the surgery with Dr. Wong.
The surgery was easy peasy, the Valium was amazing, and I went on my way with no pain or issues. The next morning, contrary to what I expected to happen, I did not wake up with perfect vision. My corneal abrasion has swelled up after the surgery, and I had blurriness in one eye. Dr. Wong told me to start using an ointment in addition to my drops when I slept to help the abrasion heal.
The next few weeks were not easy. In addition to the blurriness, I had issues with using my computer due to difficulty going back and forth from close to mid range vision. The ointment also made me VERY light sensitive so I could not drive during the day and had my computer on black mode at all times.
After about three weeks, the abrasion was healed enough to stop using the ointment. By week four, I was driving and had no issues with light sensitivity or blurriness. Three months after surgery, I have 20/12.5 vision and I couldn’t be happier.
I am so appreciative for Dr. Wong’s expertise and reassurance during the process. I would hands down take this LASIK experience over PRK again any day. He is so knowledgeable and the best in the Austin area.

If you are considering Eyes of Texas Laser Center and Dr Wong for LASIK, I urge you to at least do the following due diligence:
Book free consultations with any of the other prominent refractive surgery practices in Austin such as Dell Laser Consultants, Mann Eye Institute, and Eye LASIK. Discuss the following issues with the doctors (you can even just pull up this review during your consultations for reference):
1) Why they do not use the NIDEK EC-5000 excimer laser platform Dr Wong used for my surgery in 2019 and probably still uses today. Why they think a surgeon might still use this platform.
2) Why they do not use a microkeratome (bladed surgical instrument) to cut LASIK flaps into your corneas like the Med-logics ML7 device Dr Wong used for my surgery. Why they use a femtosecond laser to cut the flaps instead. Why they think a surgeon might still use a microkeratome.
"...I prefer a mechanical microkeratome because of the excessive cost of operating with a femtosecond laser, for the patient and the surgeon." - Dr Lawrence "Shawn" Wong
From: "Why I Use a Microkeratome" CRS Today
3) How many follow-up appointments they feel are appropriate while you are healing. With Dr Wong, normally there is only one follow-up appointment the day after surgery and one after three months unless you call in about problems you are having or the protocol has changed since my surgery. What if a problem you do not detect develops during those months of healing and goes untreated?
Note that on the websites for these other local practices they are very upfront about what equipment they are using. As of this writing I can't find any mention on the Eyes of Texas Laser Center website about what equipment is used. Are they hiding something? You need to find out.
I could share direct quotes I have received from other refractive surgeons regarding the NIDEK EC-5000 Dr Wong used for my surgery, but I'll summarize what they said in a single word: obsolete.
I also urge you to read the FDA Patient Information Handbook for the NIDEK EC-5000 laser before consenting to surgery with this device:
Google "fda nidek patient handbook" to find it.
Please review the image I attached showing complication rates with this device.
Keep in mind post-LASIK "night vision problems" you may have read about are not only present when you are doing something like driving a car at night, but also when you are watching a movie in a dark theater, watching a Netflix show on your couch in the evening, or playing a video game at night. Low-light environment vision problems like halos/starbursts/ghosting/etc are symptoms of higher order aberrations and cannot be corrected with glasses or soft contacts as far as I know. Talk to your optometrist about this. If they are unwilling or unable to explain these issues find a better optometrist.
For more information run these google searches:
"Topography of Lasik Cornea with Poor Night Vision"
"Halos: A Likely Complication of PRK or Lasik"
Please also make note of the reviews where patients describe being screened out for LASIK by other surgeons but being approved for it by Dr Wong.
Think carefully about that for a moment. For this elective surgery, some people are not good candidates and for various reasons may be at increased risk of complications. Would you be better off consulting with the conservative ophthalmologist who declines to operate on marginal candidates, or the one who operates on some patients the more conservative surgeon screened out? In my opinion I think the better refractive surgeons screen out a larger percentage of people interested in the surgery who are not great candidates. I believe that as someone with very large pupils I should have been screened out. My pupil size was not even measured from what I can tell looking at my charts!
Please make a better decision than I did. Don't do this to yourself. You only have two precious eyes, and there's no going back after this unnecessary surgery.

Had my LASIK surgery performed yesterday by Dr. Wong. Every step of the process has been so streamlined and clear. His office staff is excellent, and Dr. Wong himself instills a sense of calm and complete confidence in his expertise. I am seeing clearly only a day later! My partner also had his LASIK done 2 years ago here at Eyes of Texas. We did lots of research to find the best doctor for him. After seeing him go from a strong prescription with severe astigmatism, to better than 20/20 vision, choosing Dr. Wong for my surgery was a no-brainer. I will always be grateful for the simplicity this procedure is bringing to my life. Go see Dr. Wong for a free consult - you won’t regret it!

I had LASIK surgery with Dr. Wong a little over two weeks ago and I couldn't be happier! I actually went to four different companies and I felt most comfortable with and confident in Dr. Wong.
You get to meet with him (actual eye surgeon) on your first visit vs going thru meeting with eye doctors (not surgeons) until later on in the process. Nothing wrong with that, but meeting with him from the get-go helped me feel like he was more focused on my exact scenario vs an assembly line. One place I only met with once and they said the next step was surgery; they didn't even dilate my eyes for any of tests. Who knows, maybe you don't need to do that but the other three places did. That place was definitely an assembly line and I didn't feel that I was getting the doctors full focus which I was not confident in.
Dr. Wong listened to my concerns repeatedly and answered all my questions well, especially since I received two different directions to go in at the different companies.
Two of the other companies didn't listen to me when I repeatedly told them I could not see clearly their final selection on the refractive test (I think that's what it's called, the whole is 1 or 2 clearer?). I wasn't going to pay thousands of dollars if you couldn't listen to me when I say it isn't clear and if that was to be the final result afterwards, I would be very upset. Dr. Wong took like five seconds and showed me a crisp and clear sample of what my vision would look like afterwards.
During the actual surgery, he explained every step and what he was doing, what to expect as it happened, and how it would feel. This made me more comfortable during the process. He also called me later in the day to check up on how I was feeling and answered a few more questions for me.
Overall I am very happy with the results and would recommend him to others interested in LASIK.

They are very professional and have a clear workflow and the doctor has a sizable history working with eyes. I came here for LASIK because a friend did it and was successful, and so far 1 day after the surgery everything looks a-ok. They have lots of followup and answers the tough questions.
They don't take insurance but they do have discounts available.

My son Nicholas was born at 24 weeks. Has worn glasses all his life. He had multiple surgeries as a baby … in fact we were told one day he will probably go blind . We lived with that fear day in and day out …His vision was so bad that he was at -18 plus. Even with corrective vids he would still had so many issues of not being able to see. We never thought he would be normal… Technology of today he now has 20/20 vision … what a blessing… Dr Wong and his entire staff are amazing!!! Highly recommend!!!

Dr. Wong is funny, kind, smart, and knows exactly what he is doing! He’s done LASIK a thousand times and this is exactly what made me feel comfortable, putting myself in the care of a doctor who knows this stuff like the back of his hand. I never doubted him or felt uneasy at any point in time. From my initial consultation, to the pre-op, surgery day, and post-op, I was given amazing care by him and his beautiful staff. Dr. Wong sees you throughout all the stages! The procedure was easier than I thought it was going to be. Dr. Wong’s voice led me through the whole thing; it was actually kind of cool, cosmic-like, and I walked out of there feeling great. He even called me that evening to see how I was doing! It just shows how much he cares and how professional and thoughtful he is. Thank you a million times to Dr. Wong and his staff!

It was one of the worst experiences of my life to have a lens implant at this clinic. The staff and facilities were excellent. Dr Wong Is an excellent speaker I told him he should lecture on this subject. But he is a horrible listener even interrupting my questions to give his eloquent answers. I should have ran for my life at that point because that same atmosphere continued during the operation. The result was I came out of it with a tear in my retina. I have to keep the eye closed much of the time and instead of being helped by the operation I now have an injured eye that always feels like it’s recently been operated on. I called and expressed this but only got one voice mail in return. Since I live in two places I could not go in for follow up. I have had to spend a lot of time and money on other eye doctors trying to get some relief (including $1200.00 on another small laser surgery to zap some dullness. I don’t know why I talk to others and they were blessed by the same operation but my experience has been awful with a capitol A.

I just finished getting both of my eyes done at Eyes of Texas Laser Center. I had Multifocal Lens Replacement. After years of contact lenses (46 years!), I can finally wake up to perfect vision! It's been a week for the right, and 1 day for the left, and my vision is even better than when I wore contacts. I decided to have the surgery in Austin, even though I live in the Rio Grande Valley because the place I live in is not a great place for medical procedures. It's kind of like a 3rd world country, even though technically it is part of the U.S. After researching several doctors in the area, I chose Dr. Wong because he was very confident at my initial visit, even though I feared my high astigmatism and vision would make me a poor candidate for multifocal lenses. Surgery was easy to schedule, and the office staff was so sweet and caring! They are all such a great team! During surgery, Dr. Wong walked me through everything he was doing, every step of the way. After the surgery the meds they gave me wore off quickly (I think it was Valium). My eyes have always reacted badly when dilated, so after a good night's rest, my eyes were wonderful! I did have a slight pressure issue on my right eye, but Dr Wong was able to correct it and adjust it for the second eye surgery. Nothing can compare to the OMG moment when you wake up and can see and read perfectly! It was so worth it to drive 5 hours to have my surgery here. I highly recommend Dr Wong and his facility.
